Yesterday, we spent the day in Windsor and Eton, shopped at the castle market (which was quite cool), walked through the great park, and crossed the river into Eton to see England's elite boys in their pinstriped trousers and tails. Riley came along, as she's still getting a grasp of her new country, and enjoyed a snack of spilled cake in Eton. When we returned to Henley, she had a brief panic attack and wouldn't stop barking, even after spraying through an entire citronella cartridge. Unless my sister refills the cartridge with hot sauce (or perhaps Brown sauce), the collar is pretty much useless. We ended up leaving her in the car and went to this little pub outside of Henley with my sister's friends. The place was adorable, with a nice fire and low ceilings. We all had pints, I had a bitter, and the food was quite tasty. I had a nice smoked haddock and salmon pie, which had a top crust of mashed potatoes. For a vegetable we had buttered peas. Clearly no one in England is on a successful diet.
Today was lovely. It was about 75 degrees and sunny, and we went to Oxford with Riley and the rest of the UK. It was pretty overwhelming and quite pretty, but we only wandered through the city for a bit before leaving for the Cotswolds. We drove to a tiny town that was just beautiful, right on the edge of a hill looking across the countryside. The fields are green and yellow patches, and the houses are all tiny and quaint, lining the streets. We stopped for tea and had more scones (again with the lowfat diet) and Riley liked a lot of sugar off of the floor.
Tomorrow we're heading to London after putting Riley in her new "Panic Room."
